Drugs, Young People and the Role of the Youth Worker
What Are the Aims of the Course?The course aims to increase your basic knowledge about the effects of drugs. It has a focus on the social effects of drug use, in particular on the individual and peer influences, and gives a number of practical ideas on how to work with these issues. It considers evidenced-based practice for drug prevention with young people. You will receive a variety of activities to use with your youth groups.
Is It Accredited?The course is a portfolio-based programme of one Level 3 unit accredited with Open College Network, London Region (OCNLR) (this roughly corresponds to A-Level standard), giving 3 credits. We ensure that all training provided meets OCNLR standards.
How Much Does It Cost?There is a charge of £150 per learner, which includes resources, food, and overnightaccommodation. If you want to receive credit from the Open College Network, there is an extracharge of £75 (registration and assessment). This can be agreed at or following the training days.
More About the CourseTrainers from Hope UK work with you over two full days. If you wish to receive credit for this programme you will have to undertake additional, portfolio based work. You will develop a portfolio with relevant material, some of which will be gathered during training, but most of which will be produced by you after the training – this is optional.

Where Does It Take Place?Latimer Congregational Church is based in East London – nearest tube stations are Stepney Greenand Mile End. There are bedrooms and showers upstairs, and a training area and dining spacedownstairs. There is also a lounge and prayer room.
